Parents are the first and the most important educators of their own children, and they also possess a fundamental competence in this area; they are educators because they are parents." St. John Paul II
The Seton Consortium, Inc. is a family cooperative that provides tutoring, instructional support, and spiritual and social engagement for home-schooled families to provide their children with a Catholic centered spiritual, moral, and academic education, grades Pre K through 12th grade.
Children meet two days a week (9:15 AM to 3:25 PM) at Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church to work on their lesson plans as assigned by the parents, to receive tutoring as needed, to attend morning Mass, and to participate in communal prayer and social/spiritual interaction. Tutoring and activities are carried out by the TSC Coordinator and very experienced TSC tutors. Staff to student ratio is approximately 1:3.
Parents may choose the Catholic-based curriculum of their choice. Parents may choose any Catholic Curriculum that adheres to the Magisterium of the Roman Catholic Church. Our predominant program, The Seton Home Study Program, is an accredited elementary, middle, and high school institution that provides a high level curriculum, daily lesson plans, books and materials needed for study, grading and recording of grades for course tests, exams, book reports and research papers, placement testing for students, and accredited school teachers and counselors for phone consultations with parents as needed. Seton offers a high school diploma for students who complete the high school courses, and certificates of completion for the elementary and middle school grades. Seton provides special education course design and consultation.
The Seton Consortium provides a supervised learning environment that supports and enriches parental home teaching while giving parents time they need to attend to their many tasks and responsibilities. The Seton Consortium serves as supplemental support to parent home teaching, not as the lead entity for home teaching.
The Seton Consortium, Inc. is not sponsored by Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church, nor the Archdiocese of Atlanta. The Seton Consortium was approved by the archdiocese as a pilot program and leases space to have the home school tutorial at this location.
